Statement of Intent
Scape UK Management Ltd is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Scape Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) and Morro Built to Rent (BTR) locations in England, Scotland and Wales. Our mission across our portfolio is to embrace, encourage and energise every resident, creating spaces that enrich their lives, physically and mentally.
Our commitment to the planet, along with our impact on it, is an integral part of our vision to unlock potential for not only the people who call our buildings home but the wider neighbourhoods and cities our properties reside in. At Scape, sustainability is the foundation upon which everything else is built. It informs how we design and manage buildings and enables us to reduce risks and increase our trajectory for growth. Our ESG Strategy unifies our approach, solidifies our targets and embeds them in every element of our business. Our Head of ESG is leading our approach based on industry best practice and the latest climate science with the support of our Senior Leadership Team.
We recognise and take responsibility for the protection of the environment and managing our operations to minimise environmental impacts. Through our Environmental Management System, we monitor and manage our environmental impacts and are committed to continuously review and improve our environmental performance.
This policy has been reviewed and approved by our ESG Taskforce, which consists of members of the Senior Leadership Team.
Our Commitments
Our commitments align with the scope of our Environmental Management System and the goals and targets set out in our ESG Strategy.
We are committed to:
Prevent adverse environmental impacts by reducing the risk of pollution from our operations including, but not limited to, pollution, air quality, climate change mitigation and adaptation, waste and water management;
Protecting the local and wider environment from our associated operational activities.
Setting, monitoring and reporting progress against our ESG objectives and targets to achieve the intended outcomes;
Determining and evaluating the fulfilment of our compliance obligations for our operations and correcting nonconformities;
Identifying associated risks to enhance environmental performance and continuously improve;
Actively sharing best practice and participating in initiatives at a regional, national and international levels to improve ESG standards;
Working with our value chain to improve their environmental performance, encouraging best practice and collaboration in initiatives raise standards across our property portfolio;
Providing employees with a clear understanding of their environmental responsibilities through training and guidance to fulfil associated obligations and assist in the delivery of our ESG targets;
Monitoring and reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality through the implementation of our Net Zero Carbon Roadmap; and
Respecting, protecting and enhancing biodiversity through our locations, on and off site.
To fulfil these commitments, targets have been set within our ESG Strategy which addresses climate change impacts, waste management and recycling, air quality, water use and biodiversity. Progress of these targets is published every year on our website.
These commitments are reflected in our operational procedures. This policy and the commitments as outlined will be regularly reviewed and updated by our ESG Taskforce as required. All colleagues at Scape have a responsibility for the implementation of this policy.
