Make sure you get enough sleep
Even though you may be super busy during the daytime, it is important to get plenty of sleep. It’s amazing what difference this can make to how you feel the next day. When you don’t have an early start in the morning it’s easy to stay up until 2 am watching your favourite series, but there’s nothing worse than having to fight to keep your eyes open the next day. If you get the recommended 7-9 hours sleep a night then you should feel fresh and ready to go when the morning comes.
Learn some quick but healthy recipes
After a long day, the last thing you will want to do is spend hours cooking, so it is easy to fall into the trap of shoving something quick and easy (but also unhealthy) into the oven that will be ready in an instant. Whether it is a pasta dish or a casserole, there are some fantastically quick recipes out there that you can find easily online or in a cookbook. If you have some go to options then you won’t have to worry about learning the recipe from scratch.
Incorporate exercise into your lifestyle
If you don’t have time in your schedule for exercise, why not try walking, cycling or running instead of using public transport? These are all great ways of getting around, plus they will improve your health, and are free! If you don’t want to exercise this way or use the gym, you could do your own workout at home. Just 20 minutes exercise a day in your room is a convenient way to stay fit, and it will make you feel healthier all round. YouTube has lots of free workouts of varying lengths to suit those of all levels of fitness.
Change what you snack on
Rather than grabbing chocolate or crisps for a mid-afternoon snack, fruit can be just as tasty and is so much healthier. If you pack something healthy for the day ahead, you can also save yourself money by choosing this over a chocolate bar or similar from a vending machine. Fruit (or vegetables to make crudités) can be bought very cheaply and snacking on these is an easy way of maintaining a healthy diet.
Use an app to record your daily activities
One great app to use is My Fitness Pal which allows you to keep a record of your diet and exercise routine. The app sets you goals and tells you how far off you are from achieving them. This will motivate you more than just having a vague goal of ‘eating healthily and exercising’. It’s an effortless way of keeping track of your progress as everything is already set up for you, and there are countless different apps out there to choose from. Alternatively, you could keep a diary of your exercise and diet and monitor yourself this way.
